We’re so excited that you’ve decided to embark on your journey to a straighter smile with us. Opting to use Invisalign Leicester will make your teeth straightening process an easy, pleasant one. But there are some important things all patients using Invisalign need to keep in mind, so we’ve put together a little guide on how to take best care of your Invisalign trays.
Cleaning is caring
When you came to have your first set of aligners fitted we’re sure our dental expert talked you through the importance of cleaning and best practices in doing so, but just in case you missed anything, here’s a recap.
Removing and rinsing at certain times is important. You should be wearing your Invisalign Leicester for at least 22 hours per day, so basically you have it in whenever you’re not eating or drinking. It’s crucial you maintain this, as less wear will equate to a slower process and likely a less successful one. But back to cleaning, Whenever you take your aligners out you should be giving them a rinse under the tap to get rid of any base layer bacteria or germs. In an ideal world, we would love it if you could always give your teeth a clean before popping them back in too. If you imagine your aligners as a little plastic layer over a bed of germs you can imagine how quickly bacteria can multiply if not removed, and so getting rid of any food debris is really important.
Flossing is more important than ever. We would be so sad if you finally get your teeth looking super straight and lovely to then find out that, because you’ve not kept up with good oral care, you’re left with gum disease or tooth decay. Taking 2 minutes every day to give your teeth a good floss will seriously make all the difference to your mouth health. If you’re unsure about flossing techniques or which products are best, speak to any member of our team at Smile Care Dental Clinic they will be able to help you.
Cleaning products
When you come to brush your teeth in the morning or at night time, you should be giving your Invisalign Leicester a proper clean too. You should be investing in a little soft-bristle brush to be able to clean round the whole surface area of the tooth. You can either use a non-toxic, colourless soap or colourless toothpaste to do this with. Remember to take it easy, any harsh products or intense brushing could cause damage to the aligners. If you would like recommendations of Invisalign approved products speak to our team.
Other cleaning products that can really help soak off that hard plaque are Invisalign crystals, Retainers Brite or just denture cleaner. One of the biggest benefits of Invisalign is that they are pretty invisible to the human eye, however, if they lose their shine they quickly lose this benefit so using a brightening product will also really help keep up the desired effect.
